Luchando Para Los Veteranos

Update: Crisis and Arrest Averted! (Read here)
After a bit of confrontation with SAPD, they were allowed through by the Mayor's office. The following is reported by Rep. Pena:
At 1:30 pm the San Antonio skyline became visible to the veterans.
At 1:50 pm former Congressman Ciro Rodriguez joined the march.

Original Post
A group of Rio Grande Valley veterans is on a march to the Alamo. Along with State Rep. Aaron Pena, this group is on a long walk to San Antonio to give attention to the lack of medical and other services for veterans in the Valley. (
Pena blogs about it here, read all the postings on the trek). Now this is what I call live-blogging!

Already on day 6, they are within 22 miles of San Antonio. The problem? They were
threatened with arrest by the Bexar County Sheriff's Department for not having the proper permit and bond ($13K!!!). The Vets voted to continue their trek, risking arrest. This cause is too important to just stop now.

Support the Veteranos by writing them some well-wishes at Rep. Pena's blog.
Use this posting to post your comments. They are almost there!

(Family note: Tio Meme and Uncle Manny, if you're in SA, go support these marchers!), They are expected to descend on the Alamo by Noon, Friday.
