Trautman Announces for HD127
The Kingwood Area Democrats meeting had some excitement last night. Dr. Diane Trautman, a college professor at Stephen F. Austin State University, long-time educator, and resident of the Kingwood area, announced her intent to seek the Democratic nod to take on Joe Crabb in House District 127.
The education issue has come to the forefront of discussion in HD127 lately, while Crabb continually ignores the issue and treats public education as a non-issue. Humble ISD was a part of the lawsuit against the state of Texas calling for a better education system, and the effects of the 37% state funding commitment, along with rapid and continual growth in the student population has greatly challenged the district. Trautman states she will be a strong and active legislative voice for parents, students, and teachers.
The campaign continues to develop and Dos Centavos will have more to report soon, including the website launch and other activities that will be occuring. We all know that this race will be a challenge, but this suburban area has an active and growing Democratic base. This, along with dissillusioned, moderate, pro-Education, pro-reform Republican voters will be the target audience.
And as I always mention, while this area is known to be a Republican stronghold, an increase in Democratic votes will not hurt Democratic candidates countywide and statewide. In other words...
...RUN EVERYWHERE!
In other news, KAD was also visited by Democratic judicial candidate Alfred Valdez (CCL #8). Valdez is running for the criminal court position as a voice for the rights of the state AND the accused. Valdez picked up a few more signatures and seems to be on track to getting on the ballot. He stayed for the WHOLE meeting and spoke to a few of us stragglers about the campaign. He's definitely a great guy and a strong candidate. Kudos to another judicial candidate, Randy Roll, for recruiting Alfred Valdez.
It must have been a busy night
City Council At-Large Place 2 candidates Jay Aiyer and Sue Lovell weren't able to show at the KAD meeting. I got home to find a message from the Lovell campaign regarding another engagement. No word from Aiyer. We know things can get busy and we understand (sniff, sniff). They would have been treated to some excitement: One of our members wanted to question (and thump them on the head) for the recent turn of events in their campaigns. It would added some fun to the meeting. Oh well.
Update: OK...Jay had his last fundraiser last night, so it was definitely for a good cause. Go Jay! (Spoken as Stace the blogger and not Stace the club guy.)
