Republicans Support Cuellar (CD28) (and Vice Versa)

Now if this isn't a sign of the direction CD-28 one-termer Henry Cuellar has taken and will continue to take in regards to policy, I don't know what is. The ultra-conservative PAC, Club for Growth, has endorsed Cuellar--the first time this group has endorsed someone who labels himself a "democrat" ever.

Andre Pineda tells us more about it. The SA E-N carries the article on the endorsement, which may not bode well for HC--even in his own Laredo.

PAC President Pat Toomey singled out the first-term congressman's votes for the Central American Free Trade Agreement, which drew sharp opposition from unions, and the repeal of the federal estate tax. He also praised Cuellar's support for "school choice..."

Cuellar's also sided with anti-Latino forces led by Wisconsin's Sensenbrenner, who now wants to criminalize churches and organizations that help immigrants become acclimated to the U.S.

Another funny: Club for Growth calls Cuellar "pro-growth." So I guess Cuellar and his Republicans believe growth comes in the form of corporate welfare policies, such as: CAFTA and government boondoggles to build more private prisons in South Texas. Whatever happened to the days when a conservative organization was about "no government involvement" in business? Yes, Cuellar really is a member of this "club."
