1836 is History?

Wow! It looks like the message was received by the new local major league soccer team--WE DON'T WANT 1836! 1836 is sold to us, and forced down the throat of students, as the date when Texas was victorious over Mexico, etc. To others, it began the invasion by midwestern and southeastern immigrants to South Texas, lands were stolen (literally), treaties that protected human rights and land rights were torn up, land titles were "lost" at sea, people were mistreated, attacked, and murdered. Reality isn't very nice to be reminded of, huh?

Sources have said that a good possibility for the soccer team's name is the "Lone Star." Other options are "The Apollos" and "The Mustangs."

Another name being tossed around is the Toros. This name was among those on the list for the "texans" football team. It was so in demand that they named the mascot Toro. I still hold out that there was a conspiracy--TOROS actually got the most votes in 2000, but the controversy it would have caused made the owners go with Texans.

Personally, I prefer LAS MULAS--they kick! (and they're Democrat!)
