CAMPAIGN MANIFESTO

I am a card-carrying sustaining member of the Texas Democratic Party. Based on two assumptions (Self-proclaiming Democrats vote; Democrats vote straight ticket.), I direct my campaign message to the non-registered voter, primary election non-voter, and non-voters that gave up on the notion their vote made a difference. My platform is simple: one Texas for all, with the values of the Democratic Party as a compass for pursuing this agenda. My personal expressions on specific issues are:

Border Security
Texas borders must be as secure as all other states to the north, and at our coasts. Texas taxpayers already pay their fair share to address this issue. The responsibility to secure our borders is a federal task. If our federally elected representatives are not able to gain support for protecting our borders, they must be removed and replaced with stronger advocates.

Education
Public education is a common good for Texas. Education must be in step with the needs for the 21st Century and beyond. An element for education reform is one that is quickly adaptable to new and rapidly growing technologies. Appropriate funding for education should include the materials needed for each student, and efficient facilities to provide an effective learning environment. Teacher salary equal to the best-paid teachers in the country, and fully funded teacher retirement compensation is necessary to keep and recruit the best teachers.

Healthcare
Texas cannot be proud if it does not provide healthcare to its citizens most in need, such as the homeless and low-income families with children, elderly, and mentally ill. Additionally, healthcare is a basic need for those whose employer does not provide this benefit, and students when not covered by parents’ insurance. I will encourage legislation that will make healthcare available and affordable.

Pro-Choice
Endowed with ability to bring a new human life into this world is an awesome responsibility. The legal decision of a woman's right to choose life has been constitutionally judged. In America, this decision is based on the notion that first we are citizens with guaranteed inalienable rights.

Taxes
Government serves the people best by distributing taxes equally and fairly. I will encourage legislation that balances the need to create jobs and to operate state government without placing the tax burden on hard-working Texans, two-income working families, and the elderly.
