Family Prisons?

Japanese Concentration Camp in Crystal City, TX--with all the homey touches.

A private prison could become the second facility in the country to house immigrant families detained by federal authorities.

The T. Don Hutto Correctional Center, owned and operated by Corrections Corporation of America, already had a contract to house immigration detainees. A new agreement approved by Williamson County commissioners last week changes the class of detainees from adult men to families.

So, it begins. The Homeland Security boondoggle to waste $1 Billion on locking up families prior to deportation.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said noncriminal immigration detainees would be held at the Taylor facility.

So, let me get this straight: ICE calls them "noncriminal" yet wants to lock them up? What's wrong with this picture?

To top it off, this prison would be managed by one of the most sued prison management firms in the country--Corrections Corporation of America. Not only are their facilities low-rated, they also have a higher rate of violence, as well as well as a higher rate of inmate mistreatment. Oh, but they will add those homey touches:

The facility would have separate sleeping quarters for men and women. Playpens, cribs and classroom space would be added, according to the documents.

The modern concentration camp, paid for by your tax dollars, folks. A great way to get local communities in trouble by forcing them to create new taxing districts in order to build these facilities.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to keep them in the country, working, paying taxes, and educating their kids so we can create a powerful in-country workforce?
