Another Good Crowd for Khan...

I visited Chad Khan's Fun(d)raiser last night and it was a success. A solid group of Democrats crowded into Gringo's Restaurant bar, enjoyed a few stump speeches and some dollar margs while helping one of the hardest working Democrats on the ballot.

VIPs in the room, other than Chad and me (heh heh), included FACE leader Stephen David, Tom Rowan--the best precinct chair trainer in the County, SDEC member Joy Demark, Spring Dems' Sue Mallot, SDEC member Farukh Shamsi, Katy Floyd from the Radnofsky campaign, judicial candidate Leora Kahn, and the next former Harris County Treasurer Richard Garcia. I know there were others, but after a LONG day, my mind is mush.

Whether it's talking shop with Katy Floyd, trading stories with Richard Garcia, or just the people-watching that I so enjoy doing at these types of events, I can honestly say I'd love to attend every single fundraiser in the County. But I'm committed to helping a few candidates in my neck of the woods, as well as doing what I can for the rest of the Party, in general. So, I can only do so much. But it never fails--sometimes I want to volunteer too damn much.

Speaking of which, HCDPs newest addition, Sandra Puente--the new Director of Party Development, also was in attendance, along with HCDPs political director Melissa Taylor.

Things are growing more and more exciting in the northern part of the county. As I told the crowd when I gave my stump speech for gary, more and more people are looking to our candidates as a means of change. I forgot to add that we aren't being required to pander on any issue. People want to hear progressive ideas that will get our country, our state, and our region on track to greatness. I've heard it from independents and even Republicans that have signed up and contributed to the Gary Binderim campaign. Chad Khan's common sense ideas are also attracting Indies and former Republicans. We need to stay on track, step it up, and continue building in this area. This event just gave me more hope.

I have to say that I really appreciate Chad Khan. Not only is he a good candidate, but over the last 9 or 10 months, he's become a great friend that I hope to work with in the future. So, I thank him for running, for sticking to the issues that matter, and for providing an area in need of political change with an optimum choice.
