Damn, I Miss Gordon Quan...

There's Nick Lampson's "I hate Mexicans more than Shellie Rodriguez" ad--which really pissed me off. Now, there's these all around CD-22.

I remember when Reagan was elected and all of a sudden, the 80s became the "Decade of the Hispanics." Now, 2006 has been the year of the Latinos--let's bash 'em!

How do you combat this when the Dem candidate has already made his position clear? "No, that sign is a lie, Nick said he didn't want illegals here, too!" isn't gonna get Democrats much. (And the Chron agrees)

DC and others have always said--Democrats, don't go negative against Latinos. First of all, Republicans can see right through it. Secondly, Republicans can see right through it. And thirdly, Republicans can see right through it! But why take the word of Chicano/Latino consultants and pundits? What do we know?

In a decade, Fort Bend's demographics will have changed even more. And Latinos will be a major force there. What we have is Republican office-holders and ignorant racists railing against anyone brown. Their arguments go beyond immigration! They're about language and culture and about how diseased Latinos are. And about how Latinos threaten "American culture" as if their narrowed view of American culture actually exists.

This is easy to combat for Democrats, perhaps even proving to the American Latino electorate that they're on their side. Perhaps putting a human rights bent, as we always have. But nooooo. Republican polls say we don't want illegals here, so Democrats need to use Republican rhetoric, too, because we're just so damn believable! Unless you have a Democrat that actually believes it; I don't know about Nick, but I have a feeling Harold Ford really believes in the bashing that he does, while espousing "Christian" values.

So, now, we'll see the shock and awe in the Democratic community that these signs exist. Frankly, this Democrat was not surprised. How do Democrats react to these signs when their #2 ballot topper's views are in line with the type of ignorant trash that puts up these signs?

It brings back to mind Emiliano Zapata's revolutionary line: Prefiero Morir de Pie, Que Seguir Viviendo de Rodillas--I prefer to die on my feet, than continue living on my knees.

In this case, I prefer to lose with my principles intact, than win and become a slave to idiocy and ignorance.

This is what happens when you let political professionals run a campaign.

First, the campaign spends a boatload of money giving Shelley name ID (something she couldn't afford), and then they create an issue to try to confuse voters. It's sophomoric and highly wasteful of money that could be used in other races.

The 22nd district is highly Hispanic. Why would you - as a Democrat - try to divide a community? When Democrats become as hateful as Republicans, I have to wonder who I'm supporting.

By the way, glad you liked my pictures.

I'm with you, Stace. I'm sick of this. We are on sign watch out here in Fort Bend. We are on it.

Good. Vote for Kinky. He exposed racial barriers in Austin a long time ago. But the press won't talk about that.
