Allen Announces Exploratory Committee for CD-02
Conrad Allen (D) of Spring, Texas, announced that he is considering running for the United States House of Representatives for the 2nd Congressional District to work on issues vital to Texas; immigration, national security, jobs, education, health care, transportation and energy. Allen formed an exploratory committee and is listening to citizens and community leaders from Humble to Beaumont to China; that is, China, Texas (pop. 1079).
Allen says, "When Tom Delay and his henchmen re-drew this district, they displaced a great Congressman in Nick Lampson and they tried to silence the voice of middle class Texans. It was a set back for all of us, but truth crushed to earth shall rise again. The people immediately began rebuilding and the 2nd Congressional District is poised to return to Democratic control in 2008." Ted Poe (R) has occupied the seat for two years.
A moderate democrat, Allen served as Precinct Chair, Election Judge, Deputy Voter Registrar, Harris County Democratic Executive Committee member, Delegate to the Texas Democratic Convention, and he worked on the Radnofsky for US Senate Campaign. Allen says, "When I travel east Texas, I take great pride in being a Texas Democrat as I follow in the footsteps of LBJ, Sam Rayburn, Lloyd Bentson, Barbara Jordon, Mickey Leland and others; the list is a virtual honor roll of the Congress."
Recognized as a leader in the oil and gas industry, the Secretary of Energy (under Clinton and Bush) appointed Conrad to consecutive terms on the National Petroleum Council in Washington D.C. He also served on the Department of Energy’s Natural Gas Roundtable. He is a petroleum geologist and explored for oil & gas in basins around the world. He earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in geology from Bowling Green and a master’s in administration from C. Michigan. He serves on the Alumni Board of Directors at Bowling Green and is a Distinguished Graduate of the Geology Department. Conrad was President of the National Association of Black Geologists and Geophysicists. He teaches geology and geophysics at the University of Texas at Austin Petroleum Extension and at the University of Houston Downtown.
Conrad is a former active duty US Army Officer and he attends the Klein United Methodist Church with his wife, Didi, and their two children. He is also building the Conrad & Deanna Allen Endowment at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Lymphoma and Myeloma Center.
Members of the Exploratory Committee include:
Chris Bell: Congressman & Governor of Texas Democratic Nominee 2006
Barbara Ann Radnofsky: US Senate Democratic Nominee 2006
Gary Binderim: Congressional Democratic Nominee 2006
Anne Weedman: Campaign Manager: Kahn for Texas State Rep. 126

Mr. Allen resume sounds impressive. He appears to have credentials of a leader and, more importantly, a role model for our youth. Whether or not he wins the election, he's someone we should be proud to have in our neck of the woods. I wish more people of his qualifications would "step-up," no matter what side of the aisle they're on -- our city, state and country would be better for it.
