Piling On: Texas Senate 08

Kos and his readers are making predictions as to whom will take on Cornyn for Senate in '08. Kuff has provided his own list of prospects. Kos mentions a "people powered" candidate, but I really can't think of any statewide Dem that has that type of zeal.

Kuff mentioned Lloyd Doggett as a possibility that was mentioned in the Kos post comments. Lloyd may have that appeal. He served the Valley well and was well-liked. The Austin area seems to really like him. Of all of the new names mentioned, Doggett seems to have more of a network in place in two of the biggest Democratic areas in the state. So, that may be the one that has more statewide "people power" than the rest of the list. And he's got money he tightly held on to--which could be a negative for activists, but no different that what we saw here in Harris County. People get over worse things, i.e., anti-Immigrant Chet Edwards. (I didn't, though!)

I agree that Bill White should wait till 2010. There's no need for him to pull an Eckels.

Although I like that Pete Gallego and Rick Noriega were thrown into the mix, I'm still apprehensive. Although Latinos will vote for them, as well as African Americans, I still have a great deal of doubt regarding the Anglo Dem demographic voting for a Latino ballot topper. And when you look at practical stuff, like fundraising and networks, both would have a lot of work to do.

The rest from Kuff's listing hardly interest me. But allow me to throw another name out there: Richard Raymond.

Why? Not that I would vote for him in a crowded primary (or even if he was the only one running), but he's been doing some posturing for something. He has co-sponsored two things that kind of sickened me: The "In Raymond and Dan Patrick We Trust" bill and the bill to rescind Governor Perry's executive order to mandate the HPV vaccine. Nothing says "I'm not your usual Democrat" like God and Anti-Pre-Teen Sex!

Anyway, even though I still pick at the scab from Doggett and the Party pushing Gonzalo Barrientos aside when he should have gotten dibs for the Congressional seat, Doggett seems to be the only one I might vote for, thus far.

Obviously not about the Senate race, but why should Gonzalo Barrientos had dibs on the Congressional Seat?

I'm sorry but a do nothing state senator that that has a history of being a womanizer and drunk driver should have dibs on jack squat. The only thing he should have been guaranteed was primary opponent.
