Run Dot Run! and Way to go, Mike!
I was coasting through the latest edition of the Kingwood Observer and found a letter to the editor from one of my favorite candidates of 2006, Dot Nelson-Turnier of Spring:
Dear Editor:
It would be just shameful if the Spring Observer and other local papers continue to ignore this story (Spring teen victim of racial attack dies) as they have in the past.
The issue of racism in our schools and in our neighborhoods is here, and will not go away with us ignoring it, pretending it is a one-time thing.
Schools and parents alike need to be addressing this issue. Continual rails against illegal aliens and transplanted people from New Orleans only fuels the fire. Sane discourse on these issues is needed, but not to the point of race baiting.
Racial bias knows no boundaries. Perpetrators of hate crimes do not ask what your parents do for a living or what income level you are in. They do not ask if you are a citizen or not, if you are employed or not. They simply see the color of your skin.
Parents, we need to call for anti-racism and cross-cultural education in our schools. I am not talking about teaching in Spanish; I am talking about tolerance, understanding and values.
Our churches need to reach out with social services for our poorer communities, not within for bigger buildings. We need to break down the walls of the subdivisions which divide us, step past the walls of our trimmed hedges and bring our community together, young and old alike.
Certainly, the most prosperous of us, the ones with the most invested in our town, can only have the most to gain from keeping a racial and economic divide from creating or maintaining two Springs.

My favorite candidate of 2008 (he really is), Mike Engelhart, also had a letter.
Dear Editor:
I wanted to thank the people of Kingwood for their warm reception on a cold, rainy Independence Day.
I marched in the parade and went from side to side, shaking hands.
I introduced myself as a Democrat running for judge in Harris County in 2008. The response was very supportive and encouraging. People smiled and wished me well.
I look forward to many more events in Kingwood during the campaign. I will need Kingwood's help. It was a great day!

Thanks for the kind words, as always, Stace. You're a good guy. I hope that letter catches some eyes. What's next for us in Kingwood?
I will be at the Tejano Dems meeting at the HCDP headquarters with my manager, Jaye Sutter, tonight. Will you be there?
