Congressional Hispanic Caucus Criticizes Dem Leaders
Well, it's about time! Hispanic members of Congress criticized Democratic leaders of Congress for their lack of effort on comprehensive immigration reform, as well as recent efforts to make the Party seem more anti-immigrant. (In English)
Translated: If a Democratic majority can allow such a hearing, "then we are no better than the Republican majority we replaced," Gutierrez said. None of the legislators identified possible responsible parties in their criticism.
But DosCentavos is willing to name names: Right-wing Dumbocrats such as Illinois' Rahm Emanuel has been known to be "selling" an enforcement-only bill to bigots, such as Tom Tancredo. If that wasn't enough, North Carolina's Heath Shuler has taken the lead on recent anti-immigrant measures. In Texas, Nick Lampson has signed on to some of these efforts, and in the past, so has Waco's Chet Edwards. In the Senate, Obama supporter Claire McCaskill has trumpeted the right-wing's rhetoric on immigration.
Will the "leadership" listen?

Criticizing is good, nice to see the CHC call a spade a spade. They did make it to Section A of the Chronicle. Sure it was page 5 and only a half page, single column article, but hey...
What about getting some face time on the tube?
Take some action. What about sponsoring some legislation?
Does the CHC even talk to immigrant support groups or Latino groups that take actions similar to say the Anti Defamation League?
Do reporters even cover the news any more? Or should I just be tuning into Univisión instead?
The Democratic Congressional leadership will not listen to the Hispanic Caucus members or at least listen very seriously because that group doesn't have a lot of credibility.
Remember when Joe Baca and Loretta Sanchez got in a spat last year? That was about the most notable or media worthy thing they, as a group have done.
I think that the Hispanic Caucus would have more clout and be more credible if they actually had some members who were more prolific and vocal about immigration and other issues.
