Did We Really Doubt Her Abilities?
The Chron blog reports on budget winners and losers, and the star seems to be Councilmember Melissa Noriega. She has proven herself an effective leader of the public safety committee and ensured some OT funds for cops, as well as money for a crime-tracking software. I can't say I'm a big fan of the red light cameras--they give me that big-bro. vibe. But the post didn't mention it was part of James Rodriguez' s amendment list. Of course, his anti-gang money request will come in handy. As far as losers, though, I think they should have given mention to a couple of people that ended up at the losing end of a few 13-2 votes. At least Wanda Adams tried to go for broke and put more cops on the street.
And Speaking of Doubting Abilities...
Joe Crabb has proven himself a failure once again. The largest school district in his house district (Humble) is about to slash $9 million from next year's budget, while also asking voters to increase taxes 13 cents per $100/valuation. So, we're asking middle class families who have already been smacked around by gas prices, increased prices on everything to increase their property taxes? What about the Texas Lege?
Well, last session, the Texas Lege voted for an unpaid property tax cut that put a smile on a lot of people's faces around my neighborhood. But again, it's unpaid. We actually get to pay for it with the supposed $10 billion "surplus" that is coming in the next session. So, with the same leadership and with the same ol' public school slashing Joe Crabb in office, our schools will only worsen.
Said Dan Huberty, an Humble ISD board member, "The district has never faced this before, this severity," he said. "We're impacting people's lives and that's not where we want to be."
Well, you can thank Joe Crabb for lacking the leadership to take on his political bosses--Speaker Craddick, Rick Perry, and David Dewhurst, or as I call them: The Rubber Stamp Brigade. The same folks that Mr. Huberty and others on the school board blindly support. Well, they can't have it both ways. Choose leadership, or choose failure. The choice is easy.
My choice is Joe Montemayor--Independent Leadership...For a Change!
A New Review is A-Comin'
DC Reviews is back next week. I just got the new release from my favorite conjunto regional (also known as an onda grupera band), Intocable. This outfit from Zapata, TX always tweaks its formula while staying true to its roots, and once again, they provide a nice package of music in 2C (abbreviated version of doce or twelve). So, keep an eye out for that. Another new CD that just came out is Grammy Award winner, Chente Barrera's Music Lessons. A mix of duets with various stars, this one may just get Chente another Grammy! The big surprise: A duet with Albert "Tiger" Diaz!
El Ridiculo...
With emphasis on "culo", El Ridiculo Award goes to Corny John Cornyn for his "Big John" video, used to introduce him at the Convention. As I told some of my colleagues, it looks like it was produced by some bratty, Heritage Foundation-trained, shitkicker wannabe. Besides, I doubt he's even seen the Pecos!
Busy...Busy...Busy...
It's been a busy week in so many respects. So much so, it's affecting my blogging!!! Oh well. There are some things that just need to get done for "me" purposes.
